I studied psychology at Leeds University and during my period there was introduced to the world of photography. After leaving University in 1985 I came to London and began as an assistant to various photographers such as Michael Joseph, Spencer Rowell, Peter Seaward.

I have always read car magazines and, after a suggestion from a photographer friend, I started to approach them. With little in the way of car photos, basically none. I was surprised to get offers of work from the very titles that I had avidly read for many years. I started working for Fast Lane, Performance car, What car, Autocar and many others.

After a period of 4 years or so of shooting mainly editorial I was offered a commission from Ogilvy and Mather to shoot the new Ford Escort RS Cosworth brochure. I relished the chance to try to capture the emotive energy of this extreme car. I had been experimenting with various forms of camera rigs and was able to incorporate these into the shoot. Compared to the sophistication of the carbon fibre camera rig that I now use it was all very primitive but was, never the less, effective and I achieved the result that I was looking for. this led to other offers of work and ultimately brought me to the attention of David Esser with whom I have been represented ever since.

Over the years I have been very fortunate with some wonderful commissions that have taken me all around the world and photography has always proved to be a constantly evolving and enduring medium which has helped to keep the image making process fresh and exciting. Whatever the tool, or the location, the challenge to create exciting and emotive imagery remains a source of great pleasure to me.
